And graduation day finally came. I say finally, but the year did go by fast. Even though it was intense for both of us, the time flew by. Here are a bunch of pictures of Barrett and his classmates from the Bioengineering Innovation and Design Masters Program.
Out the windows of their lab
Immediately after classes ended their lab was renovated so here they are in the lab during that process.
Getting dressed in their graduation robes.
In front of their building.
One of the best parts about graduation is we had visitors! Which we love! Barrett's parents came in to town for it and my mom happened to be in New York during the time, so her and my aunt came down for a couple days and were able to attend the graduation.
This picture is a little deceiving because it was a downpour shortly after these were taken. Which contributed to kind of an underwhelming graduation ceremony. The ceremony was supposed to be on the nice lacrosse field and a letter that was sent said to plan for inclement weather because it was going to be out there, rain or shine. Well, I guess the weather was worse than expected because they moved it indoors. However, all the nice facilities were already reserved for the many other ceremonies. It turned out to be pretty disappointing because there were hardly any chairs to sit on, you couldn't see the stage, and worst of all, you couldn't hear the speakers. And because you couldn't hear the speakers the chatter got louder and louder.
This is an overview of what it looked like. We were somewhere in the top left of the picture.
And this is where Barrett waited during the speakers before the procession.
Walking to the stage.
Despite the chaos of the ceremony, I am so proud of Barrett for finishing this program successfully! He enjoyed what he learned and will use it forever. I really wish we had some pictures of the campus. It was beautiful and we'll miss walking around at The Johns Hopkins University.
These pictures were taken when Barrett's parents first arrived.
The day after graduation we went to Inner Harbor with all the family in town.
And we finally visited one of the biggest attractions in Baltimore, Fort McHenry. At this fort a crucial battle was won against the British in the War of 1812.
This flag also is famous because after the victory, the flag was raised and Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner while viewing this flag from Capitol Hill.
We saw this ship from the fort and thought it looked like a legit pirate ship.
On the water taxi to the fort. After a great lunch in Fell's Point, Barrett took his parents to the airport to go back to Utah.
The next day I took my mom and aunt to Washington, D.C. (My last trip to the nation's capital)
We spent a little more time at the Korean War Memorial because my grandpa (my mom and aunt's dad) served in this war.
After a yummy lunch and a crazy drive back to Baltimore, my mom and aunt were on a bus back to New York. Then the reality of preparing to move hit and we got really busy, ha ha.
